Tunisia-Libya: stock of 256 firearms in buffer zone seized
A large stock of 256 firearms was seized Tuesday night by a military unit operating in the buffer zone at Jenin in the Tataouine governorate after intercepting a smuggling vehicle, TAP learns from Colonel Belhassen Oueslati, spokesperson for the Defence Ministry.
"The military patrol spotted two contraband vehicles at the Tunisian-Libyan land border line in Jenin while exchanging goods and a third vehicle positioned in Tunisian territory observing the movements of military units," colonel oueslati said.
He said that the vehicle from the Libyan territory turned back after seeing the military patrol arrived that could immobilise the other vehicle by pulling the tires for not having obeyed the summons.
The spokesman added that the three passengers of the vehicle managed to escape aboard a car posted for observations.
"In conducting the search of the vehicle, the patrol found 256 hunting rifles including 255 12 mm caliber and another 9 mm that were seized pending legal proceedings," added the spokesperson.
